Exclusive Winter Photography with Bence Máté

Hardcore Winter Photography Tour to Hungary

World-Class Wildlife Photography – Only Six Places Available

Would you like to photograph birds and wildlife from some of the world’s most advanced photographic hides – both day and night? Then this is the tour for you.

In the heart of the Hungarian winter, Natur&Foto invites you to a truly unique photography experience with the world-renowned wildlife photographer Bence Máté. The level of preparation and hide design is unmatched anywhere in the world, offering exceptional opportunities to photograph a wide variety of fascinating species at close range, at eye level, and under carefully controlled lighting conditions.

This is an exclusive and intensive winter photography tour for those who want to spend as much time as possible behind the camera. The tour is limited to six participants.

The Wildlife Photographer’s Master Inventor

Bence Máté is one of the world’s most respected wildlife photographers and a pioneer in the development of photographic hides. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest innovators in wildlife photography.

Over many years, he has designed and built highly specialized hides, camouflage systems, and lighting setups that allow photographers to get remarkably close to birds and animals without disturbing them. Many of the hides are positioned at ground level or directly at the water’s surface, allowing you to photograph your subjects from exactly the same perspective. This creates an intimate viewpoint that takes your images to an entirely different level.

Bence’s facility is located in Kiskunság National Park, one of Hungary’s richest birding areas. During winter, he hosts a maximum of six photographers and one tour leader at a time, meaning we will have the area and the hides almost entirely to ourselves.

Photography Around the Clock

Natur&Foto has organized several highly successful tours to Bence Máté during spring and summer. This time, we visit in winter, when the landscape, light, and animal behavior create completely different photographic opportunities.

All hides are heated, allowing you to stay warm and comfortable even when temperatures drop well below freezing. Some hides are also equipped for overnight stays, enabling us to photograph throughout the night.

And the night may well become the highlight of the tour.

Using carefully positioned artificial lighting, we can photograph elusive species such as otters, herons, and cormorants in complete darkness. The lighting creates dramatic images that are otherwise extremely difficult to achieve.

There are also hides designed for photographing roe deer and hares in backlight. With a little frost and the right weather conditions, we may capture silhouettes, hoarfrost, and mist glowing in the first morning light.

Kingfishers, White-tailed Eagles and Action

The kingfisher hide regularly attracts several kingfishers searching for fish. Here we photograph at water level, with excellent opportunities for portraits, flight shots, and dramatic action images as the birds dive after their prey.

Other species we may photograph during the daytime include:

  • Eurasian Bittern
  • White-tailed Eagle
  • Grey Heron
  • White Stork
  • Water Rail
  • Common Buzzard
  • Great Cormorant
  • Roe Deer
  • Brown Hare
  • Various waterfowl, ducks, and other wetland species

The species we encounter will naturally vary depending on weather and conditions. Winter, however, offers excellent opportunities for action photography, especially when birds gather around feeding sites and compete for live fish.

We may be fortunate enough to experience snow, frost, and icy landscapes. Regardless of the weather, the specially designed hides, low camera angles, and professional setup provide outstanding opportunities to create powerful and distinctive wildlife images.

This is not an ordinary photography tour. It is an intensive winter week for photographers who want to maximize their time behind the camera and experience wildlife photography at the very highest level.
